A amplifier is a device that amplies weak input signal into high input signal. Their are two types of amplifier: 1) voltage amplifier 2) power amplifier.

A transistor which raises the power level of signal in audio frequency range is called Transistor audio power amplifier.

It is used to raise the voltage level of input signal

It may be defined as the device that converts Dc power into Ac power. It is used to raise the power level of input signal.
Need of a power amplifier?
We know that voltage level of a signal is raised by using a voltage amplifier.buy this amplified signal does not have the power required by an electronic circuit. Hence we have to raise the power level of signal . This explain the need of power amplifier.
Based on frequency of input signal , power amplifier are classified as:
1.Audio power amplifier: These are used to amplify power level of audio frequency signals (20HZ to 20KHZ).
2.Radio power amplifiers: These are used to amplify power level of radio frequency signals.
Different between voltage amplifier and power amplifier
Voltage amplifier:
1)It is used to raise the voltage level.
2) Transistor with high valve of 100<B is used in circuit. So the base is thin.
3)High collector load resistance ( 4-10kohm).
4) Ic will remain low(1mA).
5)It has low power at output.
6)Low voltage input of voltage amplifier.
7)The size of Transistor is small.
8) In voltage amplifier , Rc coupling is used.
Power amplifier:
